Mini Corvette Challenge

The 14th annual Junior Achievement Mini Corvette Challenge presented by Houchens Industries culminated on Saturday, April 19 with the #18 car from General Motors Assembly Plant taking the Championship Gold Cup trophy at WKU’s Center for Research & Development. Gold Cup second place was Wachovia Securities and Gold Cup third place was Hitcents.

U.S. Bank #25 took the checkered flag in the Silver Cup Race and Source Capital took home the Bronze Cup. The event also included a tire changing competition. The team from Western Kentucky University took the honor of fastest tire change, clocking a time of 16:8 seconds. (See below for additional awards.)

Twenty-eight teams of custom-tooled and detailed miniature Corvette go-carts competed for the checkered flag all to raise funds for Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky.

Taking awards in the Papa John’s Pizza Delivery relay race was the team from Briarwood Elementary School. The Papa John’s Pride Cup and a $500 Spirit Award was awarded to Cumberland Trace Elementary for having the largest percentage of students in attendance.

Created in 1995, the Mini Corvette Challenge is a fundraising and awareness-building event for Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky. In the past fourteen years, the event has generated more than $400,000 in funding used to increase JA programming in Allen, Barren, Logan, Simpson and Warren counties. The real winners of this year’s event will be more than 12,000 students who will benefit from Junior Achievement programs this school year.
