The first step is to complete the JA class request form and return to the JA office. Forms may be submitted online, mailed or faxed. To serve volunteers and teachers better, we ask that fall and spring JA class requests be sent in August. The fall deadline is August 11 and the spring requests should be received no later than December 16. Programs are awarded on a first come , first serve basis so make note of the deadline. Once your class request is received, we will then search for a volunteer for each class. Only one class request per form. We strongly encourage teachers to think of family, friends and your students’ parents that might be interested in serving as your JA volunteer. We are happy to train and meet with any volunteers that you refer. Once the volunteer is assigned to your classroom, you will receive a fax or e-mail notifying you of your volunteer’s name and contact information. As a teacher, you are then responsible to make contact with your volunteer to discuss scheduling and anything else your volunteer should know about working with your students. This can be discussed via telephone or preferably e-mail. During your volunteer’s visits he/she will lead the lesson, but please be available to assist as needed. Remember, our volunteers are not teachers and may need your help managing the students. Please Never Leave Your Volunteer Alone With The Students. Please make sure to complete the Check-In Form that will be sent via e-mail or fax to verify the status of your JA class. This allows the JA office to ensure all volunteers are fulfilling their commitment and eliminate uncompleted JA programs. On the volunteer’s last day with your students, have the students thank the volunteer. Volunteers love to receive hand-made thank you cards form students and a note from the teacher as well. JA sends each volunteer a thank you card with their JA class picture. With the school’s approval, the JA staff will be glad come and take the pictures or you can e-mail the class picture at your convenience since most schools have digital cameras. The volunteer does not have to be present for the picture. At the end of the semester teacher evaluation forms will be sent via e-mail or fax to obtain your feedback. If you have any questions or concerns, please call or e-mail :
