Once your class request is received, we will then search for a volunteer for each class. Only one class request per form. We strongly encourage teachers to think of family, friends and your students’ parents that might be interested in serving as your JA volunteer. We are happy to train and meet with any volunteers that you refer.

If you are signing up multiple classes in one grade level, or multiple classes you teach, you will need to fill out a registration form for EACH class period you are requesting JA to be in.

Once your class request is received, we will then search for a volunteer for each class. Only one class request per form. We strongly encourage teachers to think of family, friends and your students’ parents that might be interested in serving as your JA volunteer. We are happy to train and meet with any volunteers that you refer. Once the volunteer is assigned to your classroom, you will receive an e-mail from JA staff notifying you of your volunteer’s name and contact information. As a teacher, you are then responsible to make contact with your volunteer to discuss scheduling and anything else your volunteer should know about working with your students. This can be discussed via telephone or preferably e-mail.

During your volunteer’s visits he/she will lead the lesson, but please be available to assist as needed. Remember, our volunteers are not teachers and may need your help managing the students. Please Never Leave Your Volunteer Alone With The Students.

Please make sure to respond to JA & volunteer emails. JA Staff will contact you periodically throughout the semester to make sure your volunteer match is going OK. You should notify JA staff if you have not heard from your volunteer or if there are any issues. We would be happy to help replace a volunteer if needed, but we must be notified. On the volunteer’s last day with your students, have the students thank the volunteer. Volunteers love to receive hand-made thank you cards form students and a note from the teacher as well. JA sends each volunteer a thank you card with their JA class picture. With the school’s approval, the JA staff will be glad come and take the pictures or you can e-mail the class picture at your convenience since most schools have digital cameras. The volunteer does not have to be present for the picture. At the end of the semester teacher evaluation forms will be sent via e-mail/website link to obtain your feedback.

At the end of the semester teacher evaluation forms will be sent via e-mail or fax to obtain your feedback.
